The most ‘Sleeve-esque’ looks to appear under this year’s dress code : Tailored for You.
The Met Gala 2025 saw one of the most unforgettable fashion spectacles in the event’s history, prompted by the dress code ‘Tailored for You’. The theme pays homage to the new exhibition in the MET: ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’. The exhibit showcases ‘the sartorial dress in the creation of Black diasporic identities’ through dandyism.
The Co-Hosts Coleman Domingo, Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, and Lewis Hamilton joined a powerful host committee consisting of: Edward Enninful, André 3000, Doechii, Ayo Edebiri, Tyla, Jeremy O Harris, Spike Lee, Usher, Sha’Carri Richardson, Janelle Monáe, Regina King, Jeremy Pope and Simone Biles. The host committee adorned remixed luxury, with symbols of Black pride and a captivating display of cultural and historic references.
One of the night’s most popular fashion adornments was capes. Unfortunately, André Leon Talley, a pioneer of both dandy fashion and capes was not able to attend this year’s Met Gala. André sadly passed away in 2022, remembered as a powerful force in the world of fashion and, an inspiration to everyone. His colourful capes served as an impactful statement, embracing a platform as an influential Gay Black man in a line of work which has not always been open to them.
Searching for Sleeve…
The ‘Sleeve Aesthetic’ finds a home as far as the eye can see. After all, they say those who seek beauty, will find it.
This year’s Met was no exception.
Sartorial dressing and colours of red, white and black dominated the carpet, creating a bold visual contrast. Unconventional blazer silhouettes and deconstructed dresses joined diamonds and pearls, dangling everywhere they can. Faux fur, pinstripe and metallic clothing embraced one another with extreme glamour and opulence. All details were found on a star studded, blue, daffodil carpet cascading down the iconic steps.
